St. John's University Kishanattam, in collaboration with Jeevani Centre for Wellbeing, organized a crucial awareness training program on suicide risk identification and prevention on October 17, 2024. The program was part of our ongoing campus health care initiative aimed at promoting mental health and emotional wellbeing among students.
The training session was conducted by certified mental health professionals and counselors who provided comprehensive insights into recognizing warning signs, understanding risk factors, and implementing effective intervention strategies. The program emphasized the importance of creating a supportive campus environment where students feel safe to seek help.
Dr. Priya Menon, a clinical psychologist with over 15 years of experience, led the session and shared evidence-based approaches to mental health support. She highlighted the significance of peer support, active listening, and timely professional intervention in preventing mental health crises.
Faculty members, student counselors, and peer support volunteers participated in the training, learning practical skills to identify students in distress and provide appropriate support. The session included role-playing exercises, case studies, and interactive discussions that enhanced participants'' understanding of mental health challenges.
The university also launched a 24/7 helpline and established a dedicated counseling center as part of this initiative. Students were informed about available resources including confidential counseling services, support groups, and crisis intervention mechanisms.
This training program reflects our commitment to student wellbeing and our proactive approach to creating a mentally healthy campus environment. We encourage all students to prioritize their mental health and reach out for support whenever needed.
